ADABAS-Utilities: LPB-Limit 32 k too small

The Prefetch Buffer Size (LPB) for utilities is too small (max. 32K).

We start a NATURAL-Batch-program with a multi-fetch-buffer (ADARUN PREFSBL = Single-Buffer-Length) of 4.600.000. In this Case we need about 5000 Calls to read a file with 2,3 Mrd. (= 2.300 Mio.) ISN's.

ADAORD REORFILE (ASSO and DATA) for example needs approximately 51 Mio Utility-Calls to read the same file.

We need the posibilty to use a much bigger LPB, for example factor 10 to 200 to improve the performance of utitilty-jobs on very large ADABAS-files.

Use Case Our greatest ADABAS-File has about 1.5 Mrd (US: 1 Billion) ISN's. The time to reorganize the file is limited. We think, that a greater LPB can improve the performance.

    Hello Reiner,

thanks a lot for pointing this out immediately.
Well, it is unfortunate but I have to row back and downgrade the status to "Under Review" again.
I was to happy to have a positive answer.
I need to discuss in detail with RnD.

Thanks so much for your understanding.

    Cheers,

    Jürgen

    Hello Juergen,

this idea is about increasing the LPB on utility runs, not the 64-bit buffer pool (LBP, ADAMF-I-14). For the 64-Bit-Bufferpool we prefer ASSO queries for the first step.

    Many Greetings

    Reiner

    Hello Reiner,

we intend to come to a 64-Bit Buffer Pool.
However, this will be a multi-release-cycle, multi-year journey.

If I ask you what to improve first, would it be...
    1. ASSO queries
    2. DATA handling

Speaking: What first step would give you the most benefit?

    Thanks and cheers,
    Jürgen
